Wide Open Spaces

Catching a flight from Philly to Ohio has become the norm for me;I go home every few months to reunite with my family. But catching a flight from Philly to Phoenix was a whole new world for me!
A few hours before my flight I got the brighg idea to purchase season 1 of Golden Girls. No one told me that downloading 24 episodes wasn't the same as 24 songs; it took forever! I wanted to pass the time with Blanche and Friends if the sleep didn't hit me first. I usually fall asleep during flights but this was different. This was 5 hours on an airplane. As a pharmacy student, my first thought was, "oh my gosh I'm at risk for developing a DVT in my legs!!!" I'm such a dork. But back to this flight.....

It was five hours. Five long hours sitting next to a lady that ignored my headphones and would try to talk to me. I'm used to an hour and 45 minute flights. This was a 5 hour flight with turbulence and a time change. So you already know Jesus and I were having a conversation! Because Lord knows I was terrified. I finally mustered up the strength to look out the window! The clouds were amazing. Absolutely amazing!

As mentioning before, I spent my time falling asleep and randomly waking up to catch one of Dorothy's quips to Blanche.
We finally reached Phoenix. I was so happy to be on solid ground. I think it's absolutely wild that the PHX airport has a shuttle to the rental car CENTER. We took a five minute shuttle to the building strictly dedicated to car rentals. I guess I'm just used to smaller airports. Once we got the car, we hit the road to Kim's uncle's home! We didn't want to ride into the reservation at night so spending a night in Phoenix seemed appropriate.  The highlight was running around the gated community! It was my first run in ages; I knocked out 2 miles :) the scenery was straight off a postcard! How beautiful.
So after the run and eating a delicious breakfast burrito, we hit the road again.  This was a 5 hour (am I sensing a theme here??) drive to New Mexico.
My only complaint is this: the winding highways are a resounding NO for me. I was terrified with visions of the car just somehow speeding off the road.....I'll post some pictures of the road when I get the chance
But we made it to New Mexico in one piece after stopping at Wal-Mart which is an hour away from the reservation and then driving in the dark on dimly lit roads.

More to come about Wal-Mart and the ride in soon! Got get some rest....tomorrow is our 1st day!
